I regularly attend networking and educational events in the Tampa Bay area – events within and outside my competencies. They’re great to step outside your comfort zone and learn something new and meet people. You can also benefit others by sharing your thoughts and experiences.
I’ve shared the following story several times in the past. It’s something to consider in uncertain times.
I was on active duty and my forte was IT/Satellite Communications. My plan upon retiring was to exit IT and go more into an administrative role. I earned my MBA in Finance prior to hanging up my uniform and was ready for my new non-tech career.
My expectations and reality were different and I wasn’t sure I made the correct decision (for me). So what did I do? I jumped onto a DoD contract as a subcontractor – in a more junior role. I caught up on the technology that passed me by. It wasn’t as difficult as I had thought.
The end result? It was one of the best decisions of my life. I realized where I wanted to be.
The employment enviroment is changing, and AI is now part of that. Now, more than ever, keep this in mind with your career. You probably have options. Keep an open mind.
